Does Scrunching Damage Your Hair

Does Scrunching Damage Your Hair?

If you have wavy hair, you may have trouble achieving a defined style.

If so, do not worry, I understand!

Sometimes wavy hair may not have much volume or become frizzy.

That is why today I will talk about a technique that can help you with these two major hair problems: Scrunching.

But, does scrunching damage your hair? Without further ado, let’s get started.

What is Scrunching?

To begin with, let us remember that scrunching is a hair styling technique in which you rub your hair in your hands or on a towel to shape your curls.

Some people do it with their hands, but the technique requires a diffuser that allows you to work the ends of your hair.

It is simple to do, but it gives good results.

It is very efficient for your wavy or curly hair, as it will allow you to have a new style, reduce undesirable frizz, and give volume to your hair.

And sure, while I recommend it for people with wavy or curly hair, it can also be a fantastic idea for those with straight hair because it can add texture to your hair and give you some great waves for a special day!

Does Scrunching Damage Your Hair

Depending on which scrunching techniques you use consistently, you will have more or less damage to your hair. For instance, if you only used a towel, the damage will probably be minimal.

But, if you apply more products and use the dryer continuously, it can cause damage to the hair strands.

The heat can generate more frizz in your hair, so I recommend you space this technique out and as I already mentioned, washing your hair daily with shampoo is not a good idea because you remove its oils.

In the same way, I believe that this technique can be very beneficial for you if you use it from time to time!

Dare and start shaping your hair waves today with scrunching! If you do it the right way, the damage will be minimal, and you will look fabulous!

How To Scrunch Your Hair?

There are several ways to do this technique.

I’m going to list three simple steps that will allow you to give your hair that desired volume:

Scrunching With a Towel

It is the fastest way I know. Also, with this one, you will use fewer products than in others.

Just apply some hair moisturizer to your damp hair and squeeze your hair repeatedly until you see it start to take shape.

Dry with a towel, and voila: Great waves immediately!

Choose microfiber towels, or you can even use clothes that you no longer use much to shape your hair.

In this way, you will avoid breaking the strands of your hair, and you will be able to have the hairstyle you want!

Scrunching With Clips

If you are looking for something more precise and professional, you have this option.

If you use the clips the night before, you will wake up with more structured waves!

Besides the towel, you also need a brush, the clips, a fixing spray, and, if possible, a serum to help you soften the curls in the morning.

As before, you should start to squeeze your hair with your hands and with the help of the towel. You must do this with your damp hair, removing the knots you find with your brush.

Once your hair is damp and in the right shape, start sectioning.

Having divided the hair into the number of curls you want, start making buns of hair and fix them with clips.

You can make as many curls as you want!

If you do few, the waves will be wider, and if and if you do many, you will have much curlier hair. It is up to you!

Here comes the different part compared to the previous technique: at this point, you must fix these rolls with the fixing spray so that the shape is maintained.

This step is crucial, and you must not forget it because it will guarantee a better effect!

Now let your hair dry, preferably overnight with the clips.

Next morning or hours later, remove the clips from your hair, comb them a bit to make them smooth, and play around with your hair and the serum to finish giving volume and avoid frizz!

Curls are ready for a day of style!

Scrunching With Blow Dryer And Diffuser

Ok, if you are one of those who want something much closer to what you get in a salon, I have come up with the technique for you.

Here you will use specific tools, but I guarantee you that it is quick and will give you a great look. It is worth investing those 15 minutes to obtain your hair styled!

Remember, you will also need a dryer to add a diffuser.

As mentioned, you have to wash or moisten your hair enough.

You will apply a moisturizer to give volume and untangle with your hands or use the comb any knots that you find.

Place the diffuser in the dryer and turn it on low. This step is essential because you will avoid hair frizz and damage.

As you dry your hair, scrunch your hair in the way you would naturally do in the first technique. Place the diffuser on the tips and press.

You will have to do this step continuously until your hair is dry.

When you feel the hair is in the desired shape, perfect your style by adding a spray that completely fixes this wave.

It will take some time, but you will look fabulous with this technique!

Hair Scrunching

Yeah, I know you might be still wondering “does scrunching damage your hair?” thus you’re asking for hair scrunching frequency.

As you can see, this scrunching is simple, and you can use it every time you want to give your hair more shape.

You can do it with some frequency, but I recommend you to be a little careful, as it requires you to wash or moisten the hair, which is not beneficial when done on a daily basis.

Scrunching Hair – Final Thoughts

Scrunching your hair can be a great way to add volume and texture to your hair without resorting to heat styling tools.

However, it is important to be aware of the potential risks and disadvantages associated with scrunching.

While scrunching is a low-heat styling method, it can still cause damage to your hair if not done correctly.

Over-scrunching can lead to frizz, breakage, and split ends.

Additionally, using the wrong products or scrunching too vigorously can cause damage to your hair.

To minimize the risk of damage, it is important to use a gentle touch when scrunching your hair and to avoid over-scrunching.

Using high-quality hair products specifically designed for scrunching, such as curl creams and mousses, can also help to protect your hair and minimize damage.

Overall, scrunching your hair can be a fun and easy way to add some texture and style to your hair.

By following these tips and techniques, you can achieve beautiful, healthy, and bouncy curls without damaging your hair in the process.
